Our Programmes at a Glance
At Gateshead Youth Initiative, we deliver a range of programmes designed to support young people and families in our community. Each one focuses on creating safe, inclusive and inspiring spaces where children and teenagers can learn, grow and connect with others.
Through weekly sessions, practical support and community-led initiatives, we aim to build confidence, reduce barriers and encourage positive engagement. Whether it’s through our Friday Youth Night, Youth Drop-In or Uniform Partnership, every part of our work is about helping young people reach their potential and feel proud of where they belong.
Our Friday Youth Night is a weekly youth club for children aged 8 to 12, offering a safe and welcoming space to have fun, make friends and try new activities. Each week includes a mix of games, crafts, themed nights and team challenges designed to help children grow in confidence, creativity and social skills. Led by our friendly team of volunteers, the sessions focus on fun, friendship and belonging, helping every young person feel part of their community.

The Youth Drop-In runs every Thursday from 5 to 6 pm at the Winlaton Centre for young people aged 11 to 16. It provides a supportive, relaxed space where they can choose how to spend their time, whether that’s studying, socialising, playing games, making TikToks, or simply unwinding after school.
The session is completely free and designed to give young people ownership over the space. Volunteers are always on hand for support and guidance, helping build confidence, independence and a sense of belonging outside the classroom.

Our Uniform Partnership, delivered in collaboration with the Gateshead West Uniform Scheme, supports families by providing access to good-quality second-hand school uniform in a confidential and friendly way. The project helps ease financial pressure on parents while promoting sustainability and reducing waste. By working together with local partners and our community, we ensure every child has what they need to attend school with confidence and pride.
